Philosophy
So I like thinking. A lot. Since I shed the restrictive burden of Protestantism five years ago, I’ve decided to be a good human being, striving not to hurt anyone and considering my steps from an empathetic perspective. It’s considerably more satisfying to do good out of your own desire than out of fear to burn in hell.
Talk to anyone who has denounced religion and they will tell you they’ve been through a complete reboot of Social Value Coding. All day (for years) you spend trying to figure out if your actions reflect your own needs or just what you’ve been told to for several decades. Believe me, it’s much easier to stay with religion. I didn’t do it to make my life easier.
Thus, when people have asked me what my religion is–or what I believe in–I have note been able to give a short answer. I’m not an atheist, humanist, spiritualist or anything else conveniently nameable by modern standards. I have been reading, thinking and writing about the source of human feelings & emotional energy as well as more perceivable sciences like astrophysics & biology or theories attempting to explain black holes, quantum leaps, spacetime and such things.
Only recently did I reflect that this way of interacting with the world, is commonly called Philosophy. So here are my rants based on independent research, considered by Marjolein.
Philosophy is the study of the general and fundamental nature of reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language.
